Making enemies less accurate in Rogue Robotics
A new person jumped on the team and thought this was a cool feature. So here's a quick write-up!
I found that enemies in Rogue Robotics were way too accurate. They would insta-lock-on to the center of your character and wreck you. You could only avoid being hit by moving at a right angle to the enemy or dodge rolling. However, you needed good reaction times/luck to avoid being hit consistently.
I wanted to promote the feeling of 'almost' being hit. Like you narrowly missed being hurt!
I have four invisible points that spin around the player. Enemies lock on to one of these points when a bullet is shot. Since enemies fire bursts of bullets it gives the impression that they are spraying in your direction.
This seemed to work well. We can visually see much more action on the screen. The player gets obviously feedback about where the shots are coming from and have greater survivability! Its also much easier to dodge roll bullets after making this change.
