Hey,
Turns out the way we were dealing with the NPC ships was a big performance bottleneck. I've done some work to improve this but could possibly see this improving more in the future.
Changes have also been made to the traffic visually. We are using an array of placeholder vehicles (Thanks Home · Kenney). Changes have been made to how the traffic moves. You will notice ships swaying and slowing down / speeding as well as overtaking.
- Backend change to traffic has shown a ~50% performance boost.
- FPS is still capped at 60 Although this will be noticeable on lower-end hardware.
- NPC traffic performance options have been removed from the menu temporarily.
- NPC traffic now uses a range of models
- NPC traffic now sways and individual vehicles will slow down / speed up. Overall traffic looks less rigid.
